Are Ziosks a Tell-Tale Sign of Robotic Employment?
When I turned 16, I started to work at a Chili’s Bar & Grill. My Godfather worked there, so I was a shoe-in for a hosting job. It was trash. However, that isn’t the point. The location that I worked at back in the day is what is know as a “test location”. This meant that corporate trainers would come to that store to introduce new menu items, training concepts or policies. This made it kind of neat as we had a constantly shifting environment, and it was cool to see new stuff coming in at least once a month. So this in turn meant we would test out new PoS systems every once in a while before corporate would send it out to all of the locations in our area.
Then one faithful day, it all changed. We had a big boss corporate fellow come in with his fancy golf-shirt on that had that distinct, red Chili Pepper on the end of his short sleeves, and an embroidery on his shirt that read “Corporate” on the chest. This was one bad dude. He came in to one of our full staff meetings to talk about the Ziosk. He showed us features like secure customer payment at the table (which they ended up having a problem with), pinging the server, playing Video Games, signing up for Chili’s reward programs, completing surveys or ordering appetizers and deserts…. WITH NO WAITER!
At the time, these were things that we had never heard of. It is weird to look back at that moment and realize how it was a crazy occasion, but now, multiple places have some form of Tablet on the table to assist their guests in having a pleasant experience. There was never a day where somebody didn’t say “well it looks like you are all going to lose your jobs to robots pretty soon!”. Well joke is on you old-timer, because those robots may be coming for your job too, and sooner than you think! Below I will list just a few restaurants that you may have seen these little gadgets at.
- Red Robin (yummmmm)
- Olive Garden
- Outback Steakhouse
- On the Border
And these are all fairly popular chains.
So it will be interesting to see where this sort of thing goes. I was reading the other day about the high-density of Automated Job Positions (Robots) in South Korea, which has the HIGHEST amount of Robot workers per 10,000 human workers in the world. I believe it was 631 per 10,000 human employees in 2016. Also, if you look at a lot of manufacturing jobs, there are reports that a lot of them may be outsourced to robots fairly soon.
As always folks, let me know what you think down below alright? We are about to get into some really cool topics so follow the website! Thank You all for sticking around, and you have a fantastic day.
